June Technique Blog Hop

Basic Card Folds Using Double-Sided Paper

Welcome to A Year of Card Techniques Blog Hop where each month we feature a different card technique. We’ve assembled a team of card makers who range from new to advanced, so you’ll see a great variety of cards and ideas.

June‘s hop is devoted to basic card folds; featuring drapery/curtain fold, peek-a-boo fold or double-z gate-fold. And we’re adding a twist by using double-sided paper. We hope this gives you lots of ideas and will inspire you to try these card folds yourself...and pull out that double-sided paper as well! If you would like to check out our past technique hops, you can do that here:

You should have arrived here from KatyDid Cards by Kim. If you're visiting here first, you might want to start at the beginning so you don't miss a thing and increase your chances of winning by commenting on each blog.

I first attempted a folded paper card a year ago. I was a new coach, excitedly getting ready to go to my first Fun Stampers Journey Convention, and wanted to take card fronts to swap with other coaches. I had a fairly limited stash of stuff, but I did have some FSJ printed paper. This is one of the "drafts" of the card I finally put together...I didn't make the window big enough the first time, so had to cut in deeper and re-fold.
While looking through my stash for the above card, I found a sample that a friend of mine, Denise Wieger, had made for the Convention that incorporated folded 1" x 2" strips of paper put together in a zigzag pattern. This idea seemed perfect for this challenge, so I decided to try one. I soon realized that the folds couldn't all go the same direction - some of them needed to be folded the opposite way or the zigs and zags weren't going to happen! Here are the pieces that worked and the final card.

I also decided to try a pleated card this month. This was lots of fun and may find its way to my granddaughter one of these days! There are lots of good videos explaining how to make this type of card, but I discovered there was a variety of different widths of folds. I found the best dimensions for me was an 11" x 3" strip of printed paper scored along the long side at 1", 1-½", 2-½", 3", 4", 4-½", 5-½", 6", 7", 7-½", 8-½", 9", 10", and 10-½". Then I folded back on the first score one, forward on the next, back on the next, then forward, etc.

That does it for me this month - please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and we'll see you back here next month!!

Now you’re off to visit with Jearise at Lorby's World. Hope you had fun and thanks for stopping by. See you next month with another technique!

Here’s the full line-up in case you get lost:

  1. Wilma, all your cards are wonderful and I loved every one of them. That zig zag is so cool, but I think I could lose my mind trying to figure it out. I noticed the same thing about the dimensions being so varied. I enjoyed hopping with you...see you next month!

  2. Holy moly. So first, I felt like that drapery fold was perfection. It seemed like those folds were almost like the perfect skirt for that little hippo. I'm completely wowed by those zig-zag folds. Will definitely have to try that one. The peek-a-boo card is color perfection. Love that boot image. Great hopping with you.
